Katerina Belkina (*1974, Russia) was trained at the “Petrov-Vodkin” Academy of Arts in Samara. Later, she deepened her knowledge of photography and has since developed her unmistakable style: mysterious photographs that appear as if painted. Her works have been shown in numerous exhibitions worldwide. Belkina was nominated for the Kandinsky Prize, received the International Lucas Cranach Award in 2015, and won the prestigious Hasselblad Masters Award in 2016.
Today, she lives and works in Werder (Havel), near Berlin.
The exhibition presents works from her impressive series “Paint”, in which Belkina explores the relationship between artist, model, and viewer. She merges photography with both digital and traditional painting techniques, creating a unique visual language. Her works reflect not only her passion for classical art of the 19th and early 20th centuries but also her quest for harmony, balance, and a distinctly female perspective on the world.
Belkina stages herself as the model, using her own body as a central instrument of expression—balancing between role play, theater, and painterly composition. Color and light play a crucial role, creating an atmosphere between reality and dream, where sensuality, vulnerability, and strength coexist. With subtle means, she produces images that are at once delicate, powerful, and imbued with a dreamlike lightness.
The exhibition “Paint” by Katerina Belkina will be on view at Café Bohneville from November 4 to November 30, 2025.
