The Verein Berliner Künstler (VBK), founded in 1841 and thus the oldest artist association in Germany, presents its new members with NEOPHONIE. But 185 years of history are no reason to be quieter. On the contrary: the NEW ones do not come on tiptoe.
Ten new positions meet a house with history and show the range of contemporary art: Painting, photography, digital visual art, collage, drawing, object and sculpture meet in the Exhibition rooms of the VBK. No uniform school, no common style. NEOPHONIE relies on Diversity, friction and the power of independent artistic signatures.
The title is program: NEOPHONIE – neue Stimmen. Ten artistic positions bring different biographies, media and ideas of reality. Bodies are fragmented, spaces are lost their familiar order, light changes perception, dream and memory interlock. Analog and
digital processes meet as well as construction and loss of control, reality and imagination.
Tradition and departure are not opposites for the VBK. With NEOPHONIE the foundation of the association as a starting point for the present and the future: New members bring new perspectives, new visual worlds and new artistic strategies in a house that reinvents itself again and again. And that in a remarkable place: in the HAUS DER KÜNSTLERINNEN UND KÜNSTLER am Schöneberger Shore – opposite the New National Gallery and in the immediate vicinity of the Kulturforum.
NEOPHONIE is not an inventory. It's a departure.
Ten new voices enter a large club. Not to subordinate oneself to the existing but to continue writing it.
